DWTS Votes Shining Star Design Second

(May 2009) Shining Star’s design wins people’s votes in the popular Dancing with the Stars show, earning it first runner-up. In this Macy’s dancewear design competition, Shining Star’s designer Jon Murata rendered a 1950’s Flamenco-inspired red dress and baseball-styled outfit, influenced by the classic musical Damn Yankees. “The producer called to tell me and said the show’s designer really loved the design and concept,” says Murata, “It was such an honor”.

Shining Star is highlighted in this month's DRN Dance Retailer News May section.

Elizabeth Louise Hatt writes about company's founder fashion designer Jon Murata "..who previously designed activewear for high-end department stores, .. his skirts stand out because of the quality of fabric and finishing."

"'In the early '80s [Jon Murata] was sitting outside class when [he] noticed .. friend's skirt. It was beautiful,' says Murata. '..for the past 25 years, I have been wanting to make that skirt.' ..he decided it was time."
